## *+ Letter to ulu family (8/2/2020)*

#### Greetings New and Returning Students along with all ULu family and friends,

#### The 2020-21 Purdue academic year is right around the corner!

#### As you know this year will be a bit unusual because of Covid-19. This letter outlines University Lutheran’s (ULu’s) adaptations to these trying times.

### **LCMS U the Registered Student Organization (RSO) of ULu**

#### LCMS U (formerly known as Lutheran Student Fellowship) is a RSO of Purdue and is affiliated with ULu. LCMS U holds most of its meetings at ULu. This year all RSOs are required to meet on Purdue’s campus. For this reason, LCMS U is suspending activities. Instead, all Bible studies and future activities will be sponsored and advertised solely as ULu meetings. These meetings will continue at the Church (460 Northwestern Ave., West Lafayette, IN, 47906).

### **Student Community & Fellowship**

#### One of the greatest aspects of the ULu experience are the friendships made here. Students have been making lifelong friends at ULu for the past 75 years. Many students have formed relationships here through various activities and events like our now famous “Come Hungry Sunday” weekly dinners. Marriages and lifelong bonds have resulted from the ULu experience and we don’t expect that to change now!

#### But, there will be a few changes because of Covid 19 and the Protect Purdue Plan (PPP). PPP is not allowing RSOs to have off campus events this Fall and that does change our offerings. Out of respect for PPP we are suspending Come Hungry Sundays for the immediate future. Our fellowship and service events are also suspended for the immediate future. It is our goal to resume all activities when it is safe and feasible under the PPP guidelines.

#### Since activities are limited this semester, we are hoping that friendships are made and strengthened during our Bible Study times. It is our intention to have a greater emphasis on getting to know one another as we gather around God’s Word (especially our Wednesday 6 PM Students only Bible Study). We pray that all of our students take these opportunities to meet new friends as together we are encouraged in the Word.

### **Worship and Bible Studies**

#### College life, on its own, is filled with great and at times challenging experiences. This year some of these experiences may be magnified due to the current unrest of our times. We need rest to keep us stable in the storm.

#### Jesus gives us rest in all of our challenges. We know Jesus through His Word and Sacraments. Even in our trying times, He says, “Come to me, all who labor and are heavy laden, and I will give you rest” (Matthew 11:28). We will have plenty of opportunities to stay in God’s Word and his rest this semester:

#### *PPP, Governor Holcomb and Mayor Dennis’s Executive orders do not require face masks inside religious facilities. Yet, we are offering a mask required Service at 5 PM for all who would prefer. Masks remain optional at all other services and Bible studies. At all Services and Bible studies we are asking that everyone follows the 6 feet social distancing guidelines to the best of their ability.
